Summary

We're looking for a volunteer who's willing to be our head gardener - you'll coordinate our keen volunteer gardening team.

Detailed description

At the hospice we want to provide a calm and relaxed environment - a welcoming haven for patients, visitors and wildlife.

Our gardening volunteers willingly pick up and carry out seasonal jobs all year round. Your role would be to decide what needs doing and create a plan for managing the gardens and grounds - so that others can share out jobs like grass cutting, weeding, planting, improving the soil and cutting back or removing growth.

We think a few hours a week of your time will be needed. In between, others can follow and carry out tasks according to your plans and advice.

We want you to.....

  • use your knowledge and experience of horticulture to help look after our tranquil gardens and grounds
  • create, and keep up to date, a plan for seasonal jobs, maintenance and new planting
  • discuss your ideas with the Maintenance Supervisor - working together to get the best results
  • coordinate what tasks need doing and communicate these to the volunteers

About The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House

The Norfolk Hospice is committed to providing outstanding care for people in the local community living with life-shortening illnesses and to their carers, family and friends including bereavement support.
The support provided is tailored to the individual, encompassing their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs in an understanding, caring and compassionate way, ensuring dignity is maintained throughout.
Care is delivered at the hospice in Hillington, either in the Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy Unit or via one-to-one sessions at the hospice. Care is sometimes provided in people’s own homes.
The current services cost over £2.5 million per year to run; the NHS funds only 32% of this, with the majority coming from the support of local groups, businesses and individuals.
