Summary
Support Centre 81's Skills and Activities members with activities whilst gaining comprehensive training and career mentoring.Detailed description
Centre 81 delivers two key services: skills and activities centre and community transport service. Skills & Activities service works with adults with physical and other disabilities to get the most out of life and rebuild their lives following trauma or diagnosis of a lifelong condition.
Providing excellent, high-quality care is our priority and we want people who share our vision to join us. Volunteers make such a difference to members and staff and we are very grateful for their efforts.
We are looking for caring and passionate people who want to make a difference and volunteer with us at Centre 81.
Activities include:
1. To work positively alongside Skills and Activities members providing them with appropriate support to develop their skills, experience new ventures and achieve their aspirations. For example, this may include:
- Cooking; weighing ingredients
- Bingo; supporting members to participate by stamping the numbers
- Karaoke; holding the microphone
- Gardening; supporting a member to remove weeds from planters
- Crafts; making seasonal cards, such as for Christmas or Valentines day
2. To assist Skills and Activities members to learn new skills and to learn new ways of undertaking past skills that have become a struggle due to the onset of progressive diagnosis.
- Assisting a member who has had a stroke to learn to peel a potato with their other hand.
- Assisting a member to paint using their other hand
3. To provide refreshments such as tea, coffee or juice to the Skills and Activities members.
The Volunteer to Career Programme is a three-month volunteering placement with career development support. Beyond this there is the potential to extend your volunteering placement with the centre and/or continue with onward training opportunities as agreed.
Joining as part of the Volunteer to Career (VtC) Programme, you will be assigned a mentor. Your mentor will support you to discover job roles in Health & Social Care, as well as providing free training and support to give you the confidence and skills to pass interviews and into employment.
