Summary

Assistant Scout Leaders are needed to join our team and work with our busy Horsford Scout Groups.

Detailed description

Who are we?

A lively Scouts group who are very involved with our local community and want to continue to give our young people opportunities to grow and gain confidence.

When do we meet?

During term time on Thursday evenings (Scouts) and Friday evenings (Beavers). In addition to weekly meetings, there are events and activities planned throughout the year which would require some additional commitment, for example occasional camping trips, helping with community events such as fireworks night, remembrance day parades, carol services etc.

We know life is busy and that every week might not be possible, but a commitment to some consistent support would be a huge help. This could also work on a shared basis, for example two people helping every other week.

Who would I be working with?

You would be part of a supportive team including other Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders, Young Leaders, the Trustees....and of course, the Scouts and Beavers themselves!

The Beavers are age range of 6 to 8 years old and Scouts are 10 to 14.

Key Responsibilities:

This is not an 'absolute' list, but helps to give a clearer idea of the scope of the role - you may wish to get involved with just some, or all of these responsibilities:

Generally encourage and support the young people and be a positive role model for them.

Help to create a welcoming, safe and accessible environment.

Work with the Leadership Team to help deliver a fun and diverse programme of events, including nights away and adventurous activities.

Work with the Leadership Team to help keep a safe environment.

Find ways to contribute to, and help to improve the programme of events.

Summary:

This is a very rewarding role which really helps our young people make a positive impact in society and find their place in the world. We want the best for our Scouts and you will be part of a great team; this role can be busy and demanding at times but also interesting, fun and fulfilling - here are a few examples of some of our recent activities:

Water Activities Mayhem - a weekend at Decoy Broad canoeing, paddle boarding, rowing, kayaking, raft making

Rifle shooting, axe throwing, archery

Night time hikes through the woods, orienteering, astronomy

Camp fire cooking

Puzzle solving, games night, First Aid

Zip lining

Trips to Quasar, Cromer beach, bowling, climbing etc

Helping to set up and help run a fireworks night

Craft sessions

Attendance and involvement with the November Remembrance service.

And of course, camping trips away and so much more!!!

Our Group Chair would be happy to talk things through with you and answer any questions so please do get in touch if you are interested and would like to know more.

About 1st Horsford & St.Faiths Scout Group

Scouting is the largest co-educational Youth Movement in the UK and is always growing. Here in Horsford our young people at Beavers, Cubs and Scouts make new friends and gain confidence whilst learning orienteering, crafts, archery, first aid, cooking, canoeing, team skills, life skills, responsibility and so much more! Our boys and girls challenge themselves with hikes, camps away from home, community support, events organising, fundraising, physical activities, travel...we could go on. We believe that what our young people can achieve with a bit of the right support is incredible and by Bramley Lakes in Horsford, we meet three times a week for the Beavers (from 6 years of age), Cubs (from 8) and Scouts (from10) - beyond Scouts there are also young leadership and leader opportunities; truly helping to prepare for success in the adult world.
