Detailed description
Cancer touches all of us in different ways — and we know it can be a difficult journey. That’s why Big C Cancer Charity is here, across our county, offering care, comfort and connection to anyone affected by cancer.
We’re currently looking for friendly and compassionate Volunteers to join our Support and Information team at our welcoming centre based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
💙 What Our Volunteers Do
Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do. They help make our centres a warm and welcoming space — offering a listening ear, providing a friendly smile and a cup of tea, and helping visitors find the information or support they need.
You might:
- Greet and chat with visitors when they arrive
- Offer a supportive and understanding presence
- Help with refreshments and create a calm, friendly atmosphere
Every act of kindness makes a difference — and together, we really can make a difference.
🌱 Why Volunteer with Big C?
Volunteering with us isn’t just about giving your time — it’s about gaining something too. You’ll be part of a caring and supportive team, making a real impact in people’s lives.
You’ll also:
- Help improve the experience of those affected by cancer
- Build confidence and develop new skills
- Gain experience in a professional, supportive environment
- Meet new people and form lasting friendships
- Take part in social events and be recognised for your contribution
We’ll provide a full induction, ongoing support, and training for your role — so you’ll always feel confident and valued.

About Big C, Cancer Charity
Big C is one of East Anglia’s largest and most respected cancer charities, having raised over £50 million in the past 45 years. Each year, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we raise around £3 million to help people affected by cancer across our communities.
We provide compassionate, holistic care through our Cancer Support Centres and Hubs, as well as online and telephone support via our Virtual Support Centre. Our income is generated through donations, local business partnerships, grants, legacies, and a network of 11 charity shops throughout the region.
Across the UK, around 2.5 million people are living with cancer, and 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Big C is dedicated to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone, continually developing new initiatives and approaches to make our support accessible to everyone who needs it.
Our work focuses on six key areas:
1. Support – for people affected by cancer
2. Research – into cancer and its treatment
3. Equipment – provision for the region’s main acute hospital trusts
4. Education – through interventional and educational programmes
5. Income Generation – raising vital funds to enhance the lives of people living with cancer
6. People – our service users, their loved ones, and the dedicated Big C trustees, staff, volunteers, and fundraisers who make our work possible
At Big C, we are passionately committed to wellbeing, inclusion, diversity, and equity. We strive to create an environment where every member of our team—employees and volunteers alike—feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to our shared vision: improving lives and ensuring that everyone affected by cancer can access the care and support they deserve.
