This is a great opportunity to use your writing skills for genuine community impact.

Sub‑Editors prepare clear, accurate and listener‑friendly news copy for the weekly Chatterbox audio. Sub-editors are provided with marked-up copies of the previous week’s Evening News showing the stories that the team leader/editor has selected for reading.  The sub-editors check the text, eliminating errors and inappropriate wording, reducing the length when necessary, and then cutting the stories out and pasting them up ready for the readers to use. Full support and training is given.

The role is required on a Thursday lunch time every fourth Thursday (approx. 1.5 to 2 hours time commitment).

Suitable Skills:

  • Good written English and attention to detail
  • Ability to summarise and edit text clearly
  • Reliability and ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to follow editorial guidance
  • Team‑focused approach
  • Sensitivity to the needs of blind and vision‑impaired listeners
