Summary

Chatterbox produces a talking newspaper for blind and partially sighted people of Norfolk. The Volunteer Officer co-ordinates our volunteers and rota.

Detailed description

Chatterbox produces a talking newspaper every week for blind and partially sighted people, based on stories from the Norwich Evening News. The charity’s main aim is to produce the talking newspaper for approximately 400 listeners in Norfolk on USB sticks, podcasts and on Alexa. Other Archant publications (Norfolk Magazine and Let’s Talk) are produced less frequently as is the in-house publication Chataround. Chatterbox has a recording studio in Kings Street in Norwich.

The Volunteer Officer role can be performed mostly from home at any time except with occasional visits to our studio to meet new volunteers and to attend meetings. Use of emails, Word and basic Excel are required.

The Volunteer Officer (VO) is responsible for holding and updating the secure lists of around 100 volunteers; acting as the focal point between the Charity and the volunteers by the use of email and very occasionally post (for those volunteers who do not have an email facility); for contacting individuals who have expressed interest in becoming a Volunteer; for showing them around and allocating them to the rota; for updating the rota; for arranging occasional reader auditions, for attending the Committee meetings; for acting as a Trustee of the Charity; for attending the AGM in March each year.

Chatterbox is a very worthwhile charity to be involved by bringing the news to people often isolated in their homes. It is run solely by volunteers.
