Our grand piano at Flebrigg Hall is ready to be enjoyed—we’d love volunteers to come and play and help create a welcoming atmosphere for our visitors.

By getting involved, you could…

  • Practice playing on a boudoir grand piano by Bechstein inside a beautiful historic house
  • Build confidence in performing in a relaxed setting in front of friendly visitors, we welcome volunteers of intermediate levels and above who would like to gain experience playing in public
  • Select and perform your own music, we’re happy for you to play different genres from classical to modern
  • Take part in a flexible volunteering with opportunities to play regularly or occasionally. Piano playing sessions are between 1 – 3 hours with lots of breaks
  • Contribute your time, skills, and enthusiasm to our charitable cause

You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.

What’s involved?

  • Create a warm and engaging atmosphere and enhance the visitor experience through music
  • Interact with our visitors, playing the piano is the main but some might be happy to chat!
  • Follow National Trust guidelines for volunteering, including health & safety and safeguarding procedures.
  • Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs and National Trust priorities.

We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us.   So, volunteers will:

  • Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
  • Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
  • Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website

This role will suit you if you …

  • Are aged 16+ (Volunteers under 16 welcome but must be accompanied by an adult)
  • Enjoy playing the piano and play at an intermediate level or above
  • Are happy to play the piano in a public setting
  • Can select and bring your own choices of music
  • No past experience required, you will be supported by Felbrigg Staff and House Experience Volunteers

All National Trust volunteers will be asked to

  • Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us
  • Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training
  • Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity
