Our Summer House Volunteers help us to look after Felbrigg Hall by welcoming visitors and bringing Felbrigg’s stories to life, so people can enjoy their visit both today and for future.
This opportunity is designed to give you a taste of what it’s like to volunteer with the National Trust. It’s ideally suited to people who are free on Thursdays & Fridays over the Summer Holidays (23 July – 29 Aug) and can dedicate 6 or more days volunteering with us. Volunteers must be aged 16 plus.
By getting involved, you could…
- Welcome everyone and help to make every visit special
- Tell the stories of our place and engage with visitors
- Learn about Felbrigg’s history and secrets, discover new skills and build confidence
- Gain work experience in the care and presentation of a historic house and collection
- Spend time in fabulous rooms jam-packed with history
You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conversation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks, and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What's involved?
- Offering every visitor, a warm and friendly welcome, championing our value of ‘Everyone Welcome’ and ensuring an excellent visitor experience within the mansion
- Sharing our history and stories with visitors, gauging how much information different visitors would like to hear and answering questions.
- Helping visitors understand why we need to take care of special places and sharing how we do that with them
- Getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures and ensure in the event of an emergency you support visitors to evacuate safely
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So, volunteers will:
- Be provided with an induction, training, equipment, and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
- Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering
This role will suit you if you are...
- People-focused, welcoming, and inclusive, hoping to inspire visitors of all ages
- Keen to learn about history of Felbrigg - you don’t need to know loads, but as a room guide, you’ll pick up lots of interesting stories
- Wanting to work as part of a friendly team
- Responsible, honest, and trustworthy
- No past experience required, all training given, you just need to be keen to learn
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to
- Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us
- Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training
- Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
