Summary

Join us in Grapes Hill Community Garden and contribute towards creating and maintaining a beautiful community space for people and planet!

Detailed description

We offer informal volunteering opportunities in the garden every Wednesday 1pm - 3pm and every other Sunday 1pm - 4pm. We also run a Family Group every other Sunday 1pm - 2pm for children, families and young people to have a go at gardening and be in nature.

Come along and enjoy being outside, sharing skills and stories, meeting others and helping the garden to grow!

Tasks are seasonal and can include weeding, planting out, sowing seeds, watering and nurturing plants and harvesting. Whilst volunteers make an invaluable impact to the community space, we also focus on tailoring sessions to what you want to see and do in your community garden.

No gardening experience is necessary and we provide tools & gloves.

Volunteers can attend on an ad hoc basis or commit to regular sessions depending on their preference.

We also run events throughout the year so there are opportunities to help with organising and running stalls at our public events.

Volunteers can also take part in end of season get togethers, events and workshops as well as applying to rent a raised bed to grow your own organic veg!

If you have a group/project that would like to volunteer with us or have a tailored session (such as a tour, workshop, activity etc) please do get in touch as we are always keen to work with local groups!

Getting there

The garden is a short walk from Norwich city centre. We are at the bottom of Grapes Hill (just up from Dereham Road, next to the yellow St Benedicts View building). We are also oppostide St Benedict's Street and can be accessed via Golding Place/Dereham Road too. Parking is limited so we advise walking/cycling if you can.

About Grapes Hill Community Garden

We are a small community garden open everyday from 9am until dusk - anyone can enjoy this community space free of charge.

The garden is looked after by Grapes Hill Community Garden Group (charity) but is fully led by the local community.

The garden is mainly edible, with trees, fruits, flowers, herbs and even some beautiful community art.

We host courses and workshops in the garden, often with free or subsidised places. The Grapes Hill Community Garden Group also runs several events during the year including live music, nature themed events, community picnics and Celebrations of International Culture.

We run volunteer sessions every Wednesday from 2pm - 4pm and every other Sunday from 1pm - 3pm (with a Family Group from 3pm - 5pm). Anyone is welcome, no experience necessary! We provide tools and gloves. Come along to spend time in nature, connect with others and share skills!

We also offer raised beds to rent to grow your own vegtables on an annual basis from as little as £5 a year.
