Centre Volunteer


Location: All Norfolk & Waveney


Commitment: Flexible- frequency of opportunities depends on requests. It is then up to you as to what you wish to get involved in as and when offered.


Description:

Headway Norfolk and Waveney always needs extra support from volunteers to help clients on a one to one basis with various activities within the centres.


This is an important role, which will help people to regain independence and confidence within the activity. This role is about sharing your personal experiences.


We realise that for some people this can trigger complex emotions, so please think carefully if this role is right for you at this time, and that you have the support networks you need in place.

We can discuss this further with you, if you wish.


What Skills we are looking for:

Although you don’t need to have previous experience of a similar role, ideally you will have the following:

• Lived experience of having had a brain injury personally or as a family member or carer

• Good communication skills

• Reliability

• Passion and enthusiasm


We are looking for people who can volunteer in-line with the values of the organization, policies and procedures - please refer to our volunteer handbook.

Support provided/ Personal benefits:

We will ask you to attend our induction training sessions.

Following this:

• Ad hoc training opportunities

•At least two one-to-one sessions with the lead for this role

• Information and updates of Headway Norfolk & Waveney’s work

• Public speaking guidance – if wished. You will be briefed before events.

• Having your expenses paid within agreed guidelines.


Who can volunteer in this role:

Headway Norfolk & Waveney has limited restrictions for those wishing to volunteer. We do, however, need volunteers to be over the age of 18.

We encourage applications from those people with lived experience of being affected by ABI (personally or as family member/carer)


Next steps:

You will be asked to complete an application form, and when you have decided that this role is for you, we will ask you for the contact details of two referees so that references can be taken up before you start volunteering.

In-line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions Order), this role is also subject to a DBS check.

About Headway Norfolk and Waveney

We support adults who have experienced Brain Injury including stroke, across Norfolk and Waveney. Our aim is to improve day-to-day life for every individual we work with. To improve their confidence, independence, empower them to access community assets, to socialise, enhance their wellbeing, provide them with tools and techniques to manage their symptoms and to support them in setting and achieving person centred goals.
