Could you be an extra pair of hands for a family?

Home-Start Norfolk is looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to support families with children under five across Norfolk. Our volunteers offer practical and emotional support to parents who may be feeling overwhelmed, isolated or struggling with day-to-day family life.

As a volunteer, you could:

  • Spend time listening and chatting with a parent
  • Play with children and help keep them entertained
  • Offer encouragement and reassurance
  • Help parents build confidence in their parenting
  • Support with routines and everyday challenges
  • Accompany a parent and child to a local group or appointment
  • Help families feel less isolated and more connected to their community

You don't need to be an expert or have previous volunteering experience. We value your life and parenting experience and provide full training, guidance and ongoing support.

Time commitment: Around 2 hours per week, usually for 3–6 months

Location: Families are supported in their local community, with opportunities across Norfolk

Training: Full training provided before you begin, followed by ongoing support from the Home-Start Norfolk team.

If you're a good listener, patient, kind and reliable, we'd love to hear from you.

Be the extra pair of hands a family needs.

About Home-Start Norfolk

Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heartbreaking and overwhelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone, that's why Home-Start Norfolk is ready to support families through their toughest times.

At Home-Start Norfolk, we believe parents have a key role in creating a secure, happy childhood for their children. Children raised in a positive, loving, stable environment are far more likely to have a positive, happy, healthy life. That’s why the support we give is so vital.

Home-Start Norfolk's volunteers work alongside families in their own homes, for 2-3 hours a week to give compassionate, non-judgemental support, tailored to each family. Our volunteers help parents and carers to develop their confidence and learn to cope with the challenges and stresses life has thrown at them. In doing so, parents are empowered to function effectively and independently in their day-to-day lives, building their resilience and better lives for their children.

Volunteers are fully trained and are given expert support and advice from their Family Support Coordinator.

Our training can be found at www.getinvolvedskills.org.uk
