Summary

Engage with as many communities as possible to raise awareness and encourage people to open conversations about death, dying and bereavement.

Detailed description

At Marie Curie we value the voices of people who have lived experiences of terminal illness and End of Life Care and believe they can help us achieve our strategic objective to ensure the best experience for people in death, dying and bereavement. To assist this, we want to be able to engage with as many communities as possible to raise awareness and encourage people to open conversations about death, dying and bereavement.

We are looking for a Community Engagement & Campaigns Volunteer to work with our Community Engagement & Development team to:

  • Engage with local community groups/services to raise awareness and promote our Marie Curie Information & Support Services.
  • Help us to promote and support initiatives around awareness days including National Day of Reflection and other awareness weeks in your local area.
  • Engage with and bring together people in communities (especially those who are poorly served by end-of-life care) using a variation of activities, to help talk about end of life and discuss how they can raise awareness of creating a ‘better end of life for all’.
  • Facilitate activities including ‘life cafes’ and arts-based projects that encourage people to discuss end of life and bereavement issues
  • Feel confident in sharing their story and listening to others in an open and sensitive way.

What we need you to do:

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

  • Act as an ambassador and advocate for the charity, supporting our work.
  • Sharing and promoting our huge and varied range of information and support services.
  • Engage with and activate local organisations and communities in collaborative and interesting ways to discuss the importance of talking about death and dying whilst promoting our National Day of Reflection and other awareness campaigns.
  • Engage with local communities to listen to and learn from their experiences of end-of-life care and bereavement support and share these with the local Marie Curie teams.
  • Gather, record and feedback the views and perspectives of people living with or caring for someone with a terminal illness, or who have been bereaved.
  • Provide input and advice and share your experiences
  • Provide a good geographical spread across your local area - this can be flexible and discussed on appointment
  • Available to meet regularly with the Community Engagement Team

If you would like even more information about the role, join your local Marie Curie team on a Volunteering Q&A Wednesday the 16th of November (12:30pm - 1:00pm) and find out and how you can help close the gap on end of life care. Please express interest if you would like to attend this session.
