The Mid-Norfolk Railway is entering an exciting new chapter, and we're looking for passionate, commercially minded individuals to join the Board of MNRT.

Volunteer Director (Non-Executive)

Mid-Norfolk Railway (Trading) Ltd

Could your commercial expertise help secure the future of one of Norfolk's most beloved heritage attractions?

The Mid-Norfolk Railway is entering an exciting new chapter, and we're looking for passionate, commercially minded individuals to join the Board of Mid-Norfolk Railway (Trading) Ltd – the organisation responsible for developing and growing the railway's commercial activities.

This is a unique opportunity to use your professional skills to make a lasting difference to a heritage charity while helping to shape the future of a thriving visitor attraction.

About the role

Mid-Norfolk Railway (Trading) Ltd is the commercial subsidiary of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust. Our role is simple but vital: to generate sustainable income that supports the preservation, operation and future development of the railway.

As a Volunteer Director, you'll help provide strategic direction and oversight across a range of commercial activities, including:

  • Catering and hospitality
  • Retail and merchandising
  • Special events and visitor experiences
  • Venue and asset hire
  • Commercial partnerships and sponsorship
  • New business opportunities and income generation

Working alongside fellow directors and the railway's senior management team, you'll help ensure the business remains commercially successful, financially resilient and aligned with the charitable aims of the Trust.

What we're looking for.

You don't need previous railway experience—we're far more interested in your professional knowledge and enthusiasm.

We're particularly keen to hear from people with experience in:

  • Business leadership or general management
  • Finance or accountancy
  • Fundraising and events
  • Retail or hospitality
  • Marketing, communications or brand development
  • Events or tourism
  • Commercial strategy and business development
  • Legal, governance or company secretarial experience
  • Property, facilities or asset management

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, can think strategically and wants to contribute to the success of a much-loved charity.

What's Involved?

The Board meets regularly throughout the year, with occasional additional meetings or events as required.

This is a voluntary, unpaid position, although reasonable out-of-pocket expenses may be reimbursed.

Why Join Us?

By becoming a Director of Mid-Norfolk Railway (Trading) Ltd, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Help safeguard an important part of Norfolk's heritage.
  • Influence the commercial direction of one of the UK's longest heritage railways.
  • Work alongside an enthusiastic team of trustees, volunteers and professionals.
  • Apply your professional expertise to a rewarding charitable cause.
  • Gain valuable non-executive board experience.
  • Make a tangible difference to the long-term sustainability of the railway.

Whether you're an experienced executive, recently retired, or looking to broaden your non-executive portfolio, we'd love to hear from you.

Interested?
