About Mile Cross Good Neighbour Scheme

Mile Cross Good Neighbour Scheme exists to strengthen community connection, reduce isolation, and offer practical, neighbourly support across the Mile Cross estate. Rooted in dignity, inclusion, and local pride, the Scheme brings residents together to create a safer, kinder, and more resilient community.

As a community orginsation, we are seeking committed trustees who can help shape our governance, guide our growth, and ensure our work remains transparent and accountable.


Role Purpose

The Treasurer is a key member of the Trustee Board, responsible for overseeing the financial integrity, sustainability, and compliance of the Scheme. This role ensures that the organisation’s finances are well‑managed, transparent, and aligned with our objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Provide strategic guidance on the Scheme’s financial planning, budgeting, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Lead the development of annual budgets and monitor performance against them.
  • Advise the Board on financial risks, opportunities, and investment in community priorities.

Financial Oversight & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the Trustee Board.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of annual accounts, returns, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with the law, financial regulations, and internal policies.
  • Maintain oversight of banking arrangements, reserves, and cashflow.

Operational Finance (light‑touch, depending on delegation)

  • Support or oversee bookkeeping, record‑keeping, and payment processes.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place and followed.
  • Work with volunteers or staff (as the Scheme grows) to ensure smooth day‑to‑day financial operations.
  • apply for funding bids and grants.


Governance & Board Contribution

  • Act as a full and active member of the Trustee Board.
  • Contribute to strategic decision‑making, policy development, and organisational planning.
  • Champion transparency, accountability, and ethical stewardship of community resources.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Commitment to the values and aims of Mile Cross Good Neighbour Scheme.
  • Experience in financial management, bookkeeping, accounting, or similar.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to non‑financial trustees.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Integrity, reliability, and a collaborative approach.

Desirable

  • Experience in charity finance or voluntary sector governance.
  • Understanding of Charity Commission requirements.
  • Familiarity with community‑based initiatives or neighbourhood support schemes.
  • Confidence using digital tools for budgeting, reporting, and record‑keeping.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 1–2 hours per month, including:
  • Trustee Board meetings (bi‑monthly or quarterly)
  • Financial monitoring and reporting
  • Occasional community or partnership meetings
  • Additional time during annual reporting periods.


Term of Office

  • Trustee term: 3 years, renewable subject to Board agreement.
