Summary
The role will oversee the smooth running of the boat operations. This will include the rostering of the crew members to ensure that all boat trips can run.Detailed description
The Museum has two boats on which it provides trips for visitors: Falcon, an historic steam vessel, and Marsh Harrier, an electric, accessible launch. The boats require trained volunteers to helm and crew them. The boats make a significant contribution to the income of The Museum, which is a registered charity, run mostly by volunteers. The role will oversee the smooth running of the boat operations. This will include the rostering of the helm and crew members to ensure that every boat trip is fully staffed. It will also include ensuring the boat crews are suitably trained to the required standards to run the trips safely and effectively. In addition, it will ensure that the quality of the visitor experience the crews deliver is set to, and maintained at, a high standard. The person we are looking for will have had some experience of overseeing an active team already. We expect the hours to be a maximum of 5 hours per week. Rota changes can be made at short notice, usually by email, so this role requires the ability to check emails daily. It would suit someone who is retired or not working full time and who wants to use their experience in the charity sector. The Boat Operations Manager will report to and be supported by the Trustee responsible for Boat Operations within the Museum, and the Curator. In addition, the Boat Operations Manager will work closely with the Boats Maintenance Manager and attend monthly Operations Team meetings via Teams. The role may include helming or acting as boat engineer when the Museum is open
