Detailed description

Are you passionate about supporting new parents and building a welcoming community? Do you love the idea of combining physical activity with friendly conversation? Then we want to hear from you!

At NCT, we're dedicated to helping parents feel confident, connected, and safe as they embark on their parenting journey. Our local groups and activities are the heart of what we do, and our Walk & Talk sessions are an easy and accessible way to bring parents together. They're a fantastic opportunity for parents to get active, meet others, and have someone to talk to in a relaxed and supportive environment.

As a Walk & Talk Volunteer, you'll play a vital role in creating an inclusive and friendly space for parents in your area. You'll either set up a brand-new Walk & Talk group or help support an existing one. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and leading engaging Walk & Talk sessions.
  • Advertising your Walk & Talk to ensure parents know about this fantastic opportunity.
  • Attracting and welcoming new participants, making everyone feel at ease.
  • Ensuring all events are welcoming, inclusive, and safe by following NCT guidance.
  • Collecting and sharing information about the positive impact you're making on parents' lives.
  • Promoting NCT's values and vision within your local community.

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal Walk & Talk Volunteers are:

  • Organised and able to plan a regular and inclusive Walk & Talk group.
  • Naturally welcoming to all parents and a good listener.
  • Passionate about supporting parents through their journey.
  • Motivated and reliable.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible role designed to fit around your existing commitments. You could volunteer with as little as 2 hours per week, though the exact time commitment will depend on the frequency and duration of your Walk & Talk sessions.

About NCT

We are NCT – the national charity for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Our vision is of a world in which no parent is isolated and all parents are supported to build a stronger society.

Our mission is to support parents through the first 1,000 days to have the best possible experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

We achieve our mission though three interconnected aims:

- Sharing evidence-based knowledge to support parents to make informed decisions.
- Creating networks of vital support and life-long friendship.
- Campaigning on the issues that matter most to families throughout their early experiences of becoming a parent.

Every year, we support thousands of expectant and new parents across the UK and Channel Islands to feel more connected and confident during this major life transition.

We provide evidence-based information on our website, which is accessed over six million times a year. We support parents through antenatal and postnatal courses, attended by over 100,000 expectant and new parents. Our national network of volunteers support over half a million parents through free community-based activities and events. NCT breastfeeding counsellors support thousands of parents via our free infant feeding line and in homes, community drop-ins and services. We also provide a range of funded peer support programmes to support women and families facing specific challenges, such as social isolation or poor mental health.
