In partnership with N&N Hospitals Charity, we are implementing a volunteer driven buggy service to improve accessibility and enhance overall patient experience.

The Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) on the Norwich Research Park, operated by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), is designed to reduce diagnostic waiting times, with capacity to accommodate up to 430 patients per day.

Our buggy service will provide safe and friendly transportation for outpatients with limited mobility, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiac issues etc. from the main Hospital site and multi storey car park to the CDC which would otherwise usually be a 10-15 minute walk.

We initially aim to provide a service between 8/8:30am and 4/4:30pm Monday to Friday and are looking to recruit a team of up to 15 volunteers (3 per day) to cover our 2 buggies over the following hours:

  • 8/8:30-11/11:30
  • 11/11:30-2/2:30
  • 1/1:30-4/4:30

As with all of our volunteer roles, prospective drivers need to have a calm, warm, empathetic nature and good communications skills in order to provide a welcoming, courteous, supportive presence and friendly conversation during journeys.

Volunteers must also:

  • Be over 25 years old.
  • Have a clean driving license
  • Be able to commit to regular volunteering (e.g., a minimum of one morning, mid-morning to early afternoon or afternoon per week).
  • Have the ability to follow safety procedures and instructions.
  • Remain calm and confident when interacting with members of the public.
  • Have an awareness of the needs of patients who may have mobility or health challenges.
  • Be mindful of pedestrians, vulnerable individuals, and emergency vehicle access routes.

As an NNUH Volunteer Buggy Driver, you will be provided with full training, Trust identification and high-visibility jackets for use when operating the buggy.
