We're looking for volunteers to help facilitate record listening parties at Great Yarmouth Library, helping others to listen to an album and then discuss it.

Are you passionate about music and eager to make a difference in your community? Norfolk Libraries, in partnership with Reel Connections, are looking for volunteers to help host our popular Listening Parties in local libraries across the county. Sessions currently take place at Tuckswood Library, King's Lynn Library, Great Yarmouth Library, Cromer Library, The American Library in Norwich and we are hoping to add more locations in the near future.

Sessions are free to attend and are a friendly and inclusive opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a classic album played in full and on vinyl, followed by lively discussion. They are a bit like a book or film club, but for music lovers who are looking for a more tactile and mindful experience than digital streaming and a chance to make new friends.

As a volunteer you’ll:

·        Set up the room and record player in the library prior to the session

·        Welcome guests and help them feel at home

·        Play albums on the equipment (don’t worry—equipment and training is provided!)

·        Help guide discussions with the group

·        Help select the next album choice for the group

We’re looking for volunteers who:

  • Love music and have a curiosity for music history
  • Enjoy hearing different perspectives and helping everyone join in the conversation

We’ll give you all the training and support you need—just bring your enthusiasm! Ready to help make your local library a hub for music, conversation and community? Sign up and join the party!

Sessions at Great Yarmouth Library take place on the fourth Monday of each month from 5.30-6.30

These sessions are part of the Music on My Mind project, which is led by Reel Connections with the aim of encouraging positive discussion around men’s mental health through the shared enjoyment of records and popular music.

Listening Parties and the Music on My Mind project are made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund through the Awards for All Fund, Norfolk Community Foundation through the Public Health Empowering Communities for Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, the Connecting Older People Fund and the Love Norfolk Fund 2025, Norwich Freemen’s Charity and The Geoffrey Watling Charity.
