Why Volunteer for the Norfolk Local Access Forum (NLAF)?

Volunteering with the NLAF is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in how people access and enjoy Norfolk. As a member, you’ll help shape the future of outdoor recreation by advising on improvements to public rights of way and access routes across the county.

Key Reasons to Get Involved:

  • Protect the Outdoors: Contribute to preserving Norfolk’s natural landscapes and biodiversity for future generations.
  • Be a Voice for Your Community: Represent under-represented groups and ensure diverse perspectives are heard in local planning.
  • Gain Valuable Experience: Build skills, expand your network, and enhance your CV—especially valuable for young people and professionals.
  • Make a Tangible Impact: Help improve trails, access routes, and outdoor spaces that benefit everyone.
  • Inclusive and Welcoming: You don’t need to be an expert—just enthusiastic and ready to share your views.

Who Can Join? Anyone who uses local rights of way, owns or occupies access land, or has a relevant interest in local access.

Commitment:

Members serve for 3 years and meet 2–4 times annually, with optional site visits and workshops.

Key Information:

  • Applications will be processed by Norfolk County Council staff and NLAF members
  • Successful applicants may be invited to an informal interview to discuss their passions and priorities, and ensure that the NLAF is a good fit for their aims.

About Norfolk Local Access Forum

Local Access Forums (LAFs) advise decision-making organisations (e.g. local authorities) about changes and improvements to public access for outdoor recreation and sustainable travel. LAF members are volunteers who represent a range of different people and interests from the local community.
