The Museum is thriving and actively recruiting volunteers for many areas of its operation. Please get in touch to find out more!

The museum has one paid employee, everyone else is a volunteer. If you've retired from work and miss the camaraderie (but not the stress) then volunteering with us might be just the thing for you. If you're looking for work, but need that extra something on your CV then volunteering here might be useful to you, and you to us. Or maybe you just enjoy aviation and museums!

Volunteers work in a number of different areas including:

  • visitor engagement
  • retail and catering
  • maintaining the grounds
  • cleaning
  • education
  • archive and interpretation
  • events and publicity
  • painting
  • carpentry
  • engineering
  • electrical work

Some of the more vocational areas, in particular carpentry, engineering and electrical work, require specific skills, qualifications and relevant experience. Others just require reliability, enthusiasm, a degree of physical fitness, and the ability to work as part of a team. While not essential, an interest in aviation and museum work will be a distinct advantage.

For a full description of the Museum's work, information on access/facilities, and our needs for volunteers please see the NASAM website.

In order to help, and be covered by our insurance you need to become a member of the museum, but that does entitle you to free tea/coffee whilst you are here and the opportunity to attend a couple of social events per year.
