Community Gardening Group Volunteer

Purpose of the Role

Community Gardening Group Volunteers help create and maintain welcoming outdoor spaces where people can learn, connect, and improve their wellbeing. Volunteers support gardening activities that encourage community involvement, environmental sustainability, and positive mental and physical health.

Main Responsibilities

- Help plant, water, weed, prune, and care for flowers, vegetables, herbs, and shrubs.

- Assist with preparing and maintaining raised beds, planters, and outdoor spaces.

- Support composting, recycling, and environmentally friendly gardening practices.

- Keep gardening tools clean, organised, and stored safely.

- Help set up and tidy away before and after gardening sessions.

- Welcome and encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part.

- Share ideas and learn new gardening skills alongside other volunteers.

- Follow health and safety guidance, including the safe use of tools and equipment.

- Help create a friendly, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Skills and Qualities

- Friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic.

- Enjoys being outdoors and working as part of a team.

- Willing to learn gardening skills—no previous experience is necessary.

- Patient, encouraging, and respectful of others.

- Able to follow instructions and work safely.
