Helping to create a positive and enjoyable mealtime experience for patients on the inpatient unit at Priscilla Bacon Lodge

Could you spare a few hours to make a real difference?

We are looking for compassionate and friendly Mealtime Support Volunteers to help patients during supper mealtimes at Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

As a Mealtime Support Volunteer, you will help create a positive and enjoyable experience for patients by providing companionship and practical, non-clinical support during mealtimes. The role promotes patient wellbeing and dignity by supporting ward and housekeeping staff to prepare patients for their meals, assist with meal delivery, and ensure patients have a clean, comfortable environment in which to eat.

Volunteers may also help patients access and enjoy their meals as independently as possible, where appropriate. In addition, volunteers provide valuable feedback to the nursing team and support patient engagement through activities such as the Friends and Family Survey.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday to Sunday, from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.

Join us and help make mealtimes a more enjoyable and meaningful part of the day for our patients.

Key Tasks

    • Take time to chat with patients while preparing for mealtime
    • Support housekeeping and ward staff with the delivery of meals to patient’s rooms
    • Keep patients’ company during their meal, where appropriate.
    • Ensure patients have a clean and tidy space in which to eat.
    • Ensure patients have condiments and other meal-related items
    • Open food packaging and containers for patients who require assistance.
    • Clear trays once nutrition intake has been recorded by ward staff
    • Observe and report any concerns, issues, or patient feedback to the nursing team.
    • Support the completion of Friends and Family Surveys where appropriate.
