About Us:
Spectrom Connect C.I.C. is a pioneering social enterprise based in Norfolk. We are developing "Spectrom," a revolutionary, audio-first dating and friendship app designed specifically for the blind and visually impaired (VI) community. We are moving away from superficial visual swipe culture to create a platform built on authentic connection, universal accessibility, and uncompromising The Role:
As we prepare to launch our platform, we are laying the groundwork for robust data security. Our app will process Special Category Data, including biometric verification, to ensure our community is safe from fake profiles.
We require an independent Volunteer Data Protection Officer (DPO) to oversee our data strategy. You will act as the independent voice of compliance, advising the CEO and the Board of Directors, and ensuring that our technical build aligns with UK GDPR and ICO requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise the Board and technical team on UK GDPR compliance, specifically regarding the processing of Special Category Data.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and implementing robust Data Protection policies and Privacy Notices.
- Guide the technical team in conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) during the app development phase.
- Act as the official point of contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and data subjects.
- Monitor ongoing compliance and provide independent oversight separate from the technical development team.
Who We Are Looking For:
- A strong, demonstrable understanding of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and ICO guidance.
- Experience in a compliance, legal, or data protection role (experience in the tech/app sector is highly desirable).
- The ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable, practical steps for a startup environment.
- An independent mindset—you must be able to evaluate our processes objectively.
- A genuine passion for digital inclusion, disability rights, and using technology for social good.
