The Shoebox Community is seeking a number of volunteers to strengthen and develop our community social groups in Norwich.
Help people build confidence, make connections and feel at home in their community.
Do you enjoy meeting people, having a chat and helping others learn something new? The Shoebox is looking for a friendly, patient and compassionate volunteer to support our Monday English language sessions in Norwich.
Our sessions help people develop their English speaking, grammar and vocabulary through fun, relaxed and practical activities. We welcome learners of all abilities, from complete beginners to advanced speakers, including asylum
seekers and refugees.
What will you be doing?
- Helping people practise their spoken English and build confidence.
- Supporting learners with grammar, vocabulary and everyday conversations.
- Helping create a welcoming, friendly and inclusive environment.
- Encouraging people to learn at their own pace and celebrating their progress.
- Getting involved in fun and practical learning activities.
Who are we looking for?
You don't need any teaching experience, educational background or formal qualifications. We're looking for someone who:
- Has a good level of English and enjoys communicating with others.
- Is patient, empathetic and understanding.
- Has a passion for helping people and a compassionate approach.
- Can bring enthusiasm, a sense of fun and a relaxed attitude.
- Is reliable and available on Monday afternoons.
Speaking another language, particularly Japanese or Ukrainian, would be a bonus, but it's not essential!

🕒 3:00pm–5:00pm (the class begins at 3:15pm)
