Summary

We are launching an exciting new digital inclusion project aimed at supporting vision impaired people to use digital technology both safely and independently.

Detailed description

Vision Norfolk supports local people with sight loss to live independent and fulfilled lives.

In this role you will have a chance to make a real difference to the lives of vision impaired people and improve their access to the technology that many of us take for granted.

As a fully trained Digital Skills Volunteer, you will be able to show vision-impaired learners how to use predominantly smartphones and tablets in either a group or 1:1 setting.

In this role you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and/or small-group training to vision-impaired clients on using mobile phones and tablets (iOS and/or Android).
  • Teach accessibility features, such as screen readers (VoiceOver/TalkBack), magnification, display settings, voice control, and other assistive tools.
  • Support clients to develop confidence in everyday digital tasks such as calling, messaging, using email, browsing the internet, and accessing essential apps.
  • Offer guidance on useful accessible apps, including navigation, reading, communication, and daily living tools.
  • Provide patient, friendly encouragement to help clients overcome digital barriers and build independence.
  • Assist with setting up devices, adjusting accessibility settings, and troubleshooting simple issues.
  • Keep basic training notes or session logs so Vision Norfolk can track client and project progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding standards at all times.

We are looking for enthusiastic and empathic people who have a keen interest in using technology, particularly smartphone and tablets, and who have a willingness to learn about how various technologies can be used to support people with sight loss.

We will provide you with the training that you need to undertake your role with confidence.
