Support patients, visitors, and staff by volunteering in GP practices, dental services, and social care settings.

Aim of the Role:

To support practice staff by keeping stockrooms clean, tidy, and well organised. Volunteers will assist with stock rotation, basic ordering support, and stock level checks. They will also help restock clinical areas and ensure shared spaces are supplied with essentials such as tea, coffee, and water. This behind-the-scenes role is essential for helping the practice run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Keep the stockroom areas clean, tidy, and well organised.
    • Unpack and store deliveries of stock in the correct locations.
    • Assist with stock rotation to ensure older stock is used first and items are not wasted.
    • Carry out regular replenishment of clinical equipment and supplies.
    • Restock shared areas (e.g. staff rooms, meeting spaces) with items such as tea, coffee, and water.
    • Monitor stock levels and inform administrative staff when items are running low.
    • Conduct basic stock checks to help maintain accurate inventory levels.
    • Support staff in maintaining well-stocked, functional, and safe clinical areas.
    • Follow infection control and health and safety guidelines when handling supplies.
    • Always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Boundaries and Safeguards:

  • Volunteers will not handle medication or sensitive medical supplies.
  • Any issues with stock shortages or safety concerns should be reported to staff.
  • Volunteers will not be responsible for ordering stock but may support the process under supervision.
  • Tasks will be clearly assigned, and volunteers will receive guidance from a named staff member.

Purpose of the Role:

    • Helps clinical and admin staff work more efficiently by ensuring supplies are readily available.
    • Reduces time spent by staff on non-clinical tasks such as restocking and organising.
    • Keeps clinical and shared areas clean, safe, and well maintained.
    • Supports smoother day-to-day operations through improved stock management.
    • Contributes to a pleasant and functional working environment for the whole team.
    • Offers a practical, behind-the-scenes volunteer role that directly supports patient care.

Skills and Qualities:

  • Organised and methodical approach to tasks
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to follow processes and instructions reliably
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
  • Respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Physically able to handle light lifting and movement of stock
  • Friendly and proactive attitude
