Support patients, visitors, and staff by volunteering in GP practices, dental services, and social care settings.
Aim of the Role:
To support the smooth and welcoming delivery of seasonal vaccination clinics (flu or COVID-19) by assisting with patient communication, check-in, navigation, and general non-clinical tasks. Volunteers help ensure patients feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout their visit. This role plays a vital part in enhancing patient experience and helping clinics run efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome patients on arrival, offering a friendly and reassuring presence.
- Assist with patient check-in and direct them to the correct waiting or vaccination areas.
- Help manage the flow of patients to ensure appointments run smoothly and on time.
- Offer reassurance and friendly conversation, especially to patients who may be anxious or attending alone.
- Assist with paperwork, such as helping patient’s complete forms if needed.
- Signpost patients to relevant health information or local services.
- Monitor and maintain waiting areas to keep them tidy, clean, and comfortable.
- Support staff with light, non-clinical tasks during busy periods.
- Direct patients to post-vaccination observation areas (if required) and keep an eye on general wellbeing.
- Follow all infection control, confidentiality, and data protection policies.
Boundaries and Safeguards:
- Volunteers will not administer vaccinations or provide clinical advice.
- Any health concerns or adverse reactions must be reported immediately to clinical staff.
- Volunteers will not handle personal medical records unless explicitly directed and trained.
- All patient information must be treated with strict confidentiality.
Purpose of the Role
- Enhances the patient experience through friendly, face-to-face support.
