The Conservation Team meets weekly to carry out a range of tasks that help maintain the gardens and parkland, supporting their sustainability for the future.

Are you passionate about wildlife and the environment? Do you enjoy being outdoors? Are you keen to join a team of volunteers and contribute to maintaining wildlife habitats at one of Norfolk’s hidden treasures? If so, we would love to have you onboard as a Volunteer! 

 

The volunteer Conservation Team at Mannington meet weekly to carry out a range of tasks under the supervision of the lead Conservationist. All tasks are practical activities that help maintain or improve our estate for the benefit of wildlife, and those who explore or work within them. 

 

The tasks carried out make a huge impact on the conservation of this historic site which includes wetlands, woodlands, fens and wildflower meadows.

 

The role would suit anyone who wishes to get outside, be active, meet people and make a difference

 

Outline of activities include: 

·       Assist with habitat restoration and management 

·       Conduct wildlife surveys 

·       Maintaining footpaths and trails around the estate land 

·       Supporting public outreach programs by supporting educational workshops, guided walks, or other events to educate the public about conservation 

·       Work within the guidelines of health & safety in the workplace  

·       To inform office facilities of any defective equipment and tools  

·       

Personal qualities and experience: 

·       Good communication and listening skills 

·       Reasonably fit. the role will require kneeling, bending, and manual handling of tools  

·       Willing to work in all weathers

·       Have positive, organised and flexible approach to work 

·       Can work as a team 

·       Take part in tools and safety talks and abide by the necessary health and safety guidance to ensure a safe and successful conservation task day 

·       Knowledge of wildlife, insects and habitant management

Time Commitment: 

Conservation sessions run weekly on Thursday from 10am to 1pm and 1.30am to 3pm.

We would like volunteers to join with the intention of being able to commit to 21 weeks out of 52 (at least two sessions a month)
