Help us to set up a new programme of group walks for bereaved adults to join in with.

We’re launching a new walking group for adults who’ve been bereaved. Working in collaboration with St Elizabeth Hospice which serves Ipswich and East Suffolk, we aim initially to offer two walks a month. Eventually we’d like to offer a more extensive range of walks similar to those offered by St Elizabeth’s. Our Bereavement Service does already offer Footsteps - a walking group aimed at the bereaved relatives of people who were supported by Tapping House prior to their death. This is a valuable and supportive group so we’d like to build on this by offering walks more widely, to any adult who has had a bereavement regardless of any previous contact with Tapping House. Our new team of volunteers will be people who’d like to take a leadership role in developing and shaping this service - ready for a launch in the autumn.  As this grows over time there will be a need for more walk leaders.

What we’ll want you to do

  • be part of a small team focused on developing the service
  • identify walk routes and work out parking, access to a café, walk length and difficulty level
  • in pairs to lead walks, chat with people and create a welcoming atmosphere
  • manage any emotion or distress during the walk in a compassionate manner
  • take part in our Compassionate Friends training

About Tapping House

Tapping House hospice is committed to providing outstanding care for people in the local community living with life-shortening illnesses and to their carers, family and friends including bereavement support.
The support provided is tailored to the individual, encompassing their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs in an understanding, caring and compassionate way, ensuring dignity is maintained throughout.
Care is delivered at the hospice in Hillington, either in the Inpatient Unit, at Day Therapy groups or one-to-one sessions at the hospice. Care is sometimes provided in people’s own homes. Our outstanding care services cost a staggering £6.7million to provide each year and this year alone we will need to raise £5 million to provide the care patients truly deserve. We rely on the majority of this coming from the support of local groups, businesses and individuals.
