The Empowering Communities partnership are excited to let you know about an upcoming EDI workshop we have in the calendar. (This is the third in our series of EDI workshops but can be attended as a stand alone event).

Join expert facilitator Katie Allen to increase your knowledge, understanding and confidence around the topic of Allyship.

Taking place on Thursday 13th March 10:30am until 12pm online

What to expect:

  • A foundational understanding of allyship and what it means to act as an ally.
  • Developing a confident toolkit for challenge, expressing and role modelling desired behaviours.
  • Creating a common language of allyship, making difficult conversations easier.

Structure of session:

  • Introduction and psychological safety principles
  • The basis of allyship - it's a verb
  • Unpacking frames of reference
  • How to apologise
  • Exploring acts of allyship
  • Q&A: ask Katie anything! What makes you nervous? What terminology do people not understand?

A little bit about Katie Allen:

Katie started her business, Katie Allen Consulting, Katie Allen Diversity Equity & Inclusion Specialist, & Executive Coach in 2020 and has since helped thousands of leaders to fight the fear of putting their foot in it!

Other things to note:

The workshop is online. A link to join will be sent a couple of weeks before the workshop date.

If you require any adjustments to help you take part in the session, please get in touch at communities@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk

This training workshop, unlike many of our other events, incurs a charge of £12 +VAT per participant. This is to ensure attendance and to reflect the expertise of the facilitator, as well as to contribute to our costs, which are subsidised by the Empowering Communities partnership. We kindly ask that you pay via credit/debit card when booking.

Tickets are limited to a maximum of 2 per organisation, to ensure the training is accessed by as many VCSEs as possible.

If you have any questions about the above, please do get in touch at communities@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk

Engaging Young People in Volunteering workshop

| For organisations

There's still time to book your place on our Engaging Young People in Volunteering workshop. This session will help you to take the first steps to engage young people to volunteer with your charity or community group, or improve your existing relationship with young volunteers. What's Involved? With declining volunteer numbers and rising youth isolation in mind, we know that both VCSEs and young people themselves are in a position to gain a lot from volunteering, but many organisations are unsure how to appeal to this audience. Many groups are also concerned about how to tailor roles to the needs of young people and safely support them. In this workshop, we'll explore the safeguarding considerations of working with under-18s, plus hear from young people about their experiences of volunteering. In breakout groups, we'll discuss the specific barriers to working with young people you face in your organisation, plus how you might overcome them. Finally, we'll share some good practice from local organisations who successfully support young volunteers.
