Summary
Chatterbox produces a talking newspaper for blind and partially sighted people of Norfolk. The Team Leaders over-see production.Detailed description
Chatterbox produces a talking newspaper every week for blind and partially sighted people, based on stories from the Norwich Evening News. The charity’s main aim is to produce the talking newspaper for approximately 400 listeners in Norfolk on USB sticks, podcasts and on Alexa. Other Archant publications (Norfolk Magazine and Let’s Talk) are produced less frequently as is the in-house publication Chataround. Chatterbox has a recording studio in Kings Street in Norwich.
There are four Chatterbox teams and each team has a Team Leader. Reording is at our studio every Thursday so this role is one Thursday in every four (approx. times noon to 7.30pm).
The Team Leader is responsible for co-ordinating all the activities involved in producing the week’s Chatterbox, from opening the door at the beginning through to ensuring that all wallets have been emptied, returning wallets have been co-ordinated, sub editing of stories has taken place, recordings done and wallets filled and prepared for the postman before closing the office at the end of the day.
All these tasks are completed by volunteers – the team leader is an overseer and sometimes sits in for people who cannot attend. Full training and continuing support from the other experienced team leaders will be given.
Chatterbox is a very worthwhile charity to be involved with – the talking newspaper is sometimes the only connection people have to the outside world. The charity is run solely by volunteers.
