Summary

Join the Chocolution as a UK-based NED! Help shape a bold new CIC centred on justice, dignity, and cocoa community leadership. Be part of real change.

Detailed description

Join the Chocolution is becoming a UK Community Interest Company (CIC), and we are looking for UK-based Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join our founding board. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a movement grounded in dignity, justice, and community-led change.

We already have NEDs from cocoa-growing regions and now need UK-based board members — especially from East Anglia (Norfolk, Suffolk, or Cambridgeshire) — to meet legal requirements and reflect the communities we're engaging with here.

Who We’re Looking For

You do not need experience in cocoa or chocolate. But if you do work in the sector, your values must align with ours, and you must not have any conflicts of interest — especially any connection to companies or products involving child labour, slavery, or exploitative cocoa sourcing.

We welcome people from diverse backgrounds, especially those with experience in:

  • Community organising or grassroots social change
  • Cultural and creative industries
  • Education, storytelling, or public engagement
  • Legal, financial, or governance support for CICs or non-profits
  • Food systems, hospitality, or ethical supply chains

Above all, we’re looking for individuals who are:

  • Passionate about justice, dignity, and shifting power
  • Supportive of anti-racist, decolonial approaches
  • Collaborative, values-driven, and open to learning
  • Willing to contribute strategic thinking, not day-to-day operations

Core Values You Must Support

Join the Chocolution exists to:

  • Elevate the voices and leadership of cocoa-growing communities
  • Challenge exploitative systems in chocolate, not apply band-aids
  • Promote responsibility over certificationdignity over charity
  • Actively oppose racism, whitewashing, and extractive relationships
  • Offer real opportunities for people to get involved in meaningful change

Your Role as a NED

  • Attend quarterly board meetings (virtual or in-person where possible)
  • Provide guidance, insight, and support for the organisation’s development
  • Ensure accountability, transparency, and values-led decision-making
  • Represent the movement with integrity

This is a voluntary role with scope for meaningful influence and connection.

About Join the Chocolution

Non-profit or community initiative (CIC in development)

About Us
Join the Chocolution is a new and evolving community initiative, forming and developing to become a UK Community Interest Company (CIC).

Our mission is to elevate the voice of cocoa-growing communities and build a people-powered movement for change in chocolate. We use chocolate as a tool — a lens — to explore and highlight issues of injustice, inequality, and environmental harm.

Because chocolate is something so many people love deeply, it becomes a powerful entry point: If we can create meaningful change in chocolate, what else might be possible?

Our Core Commitments
🔗 Build a collaborative and inclusive community
📢 Amplify cocoa-growing community voices and leadership
🌱 Champion environmental and social justice in chocolate
✊ Stand against trafficking, slavery, and forced labour
🎨 Use creative, accessible formats to engage all ages and backgrounds
💡 Use chocolate to spark deeper conversations about systems, power, and connection
What We Do
Our work includes:

Festivals and Forums – e.g. Norwich Chocolate Festival & Forum, combining public engagement, discovery, and critical dialogue
Community Events – chocolate dinners, storytelling evenings, and relaxed social events like Choc n Chat and Choc n Chill
Public Education – talks, workshops, and activities exploring the cocoa supply chain, history, flavour, and justice
Sector Engagement – working with hospitality and small business owners to improve responsible sourcing and deepen understanding
Movement Building – launching a UK-wide Chocolution Membership for individuals and organisations ready to take part in change
We are currently inviting UK-based Non-Executive Directors, volunteers, and collaborators to join us as we grow this movement together.
