Environment Champions at Great Yarmouth Green Team - GY Civic Society

The Civic Society of Great Yarmouth is working on a project to improve environmental cleanliness, create safe spaces, and increase civic pride in Great Yarmouth. Your involvement will be pivotal in our efforts to revitalise alleyways across the town centre and south Yarmouth, particularly focusing on the Historic Rows extending southeast from King Street and Marketplace. These Rows hold important heritage significance, deeply intertwined with the town's trading legacy. Additionally, we aim to improve other alleyways serving as crucial conduits between workplaces and residences.

Volunteering will take place weekly on Tuesdays at 10am to 11:30am followed by refreshments.

Volunteers will be grouped into teams, each assigned to a specific alleyway improvement project during every session. Responsibilities will include:

• Collecting small litter and debris and depositing them in sacks.
• Disposing of larger waste items at designated collection points.
• Eliminating weeds, vegetation, and other growth along pavements and alley boundaries.
• Sweeping pavements to eliminate bird droppings and any residual litter too minuscule to pick up.
• Occasionally Attending awareness discussions and advocating for the project encouraging participation in awareness events.
• Distributing flyers and project information to attract more participants.

All necessary tools, equipment, and protective gear will be provided to ensure your safety throughout the tasks. While this opportunity may not be glamorous, your contributions will yield immediate results and improve civic pride and community cohesion. By joining us, you'll play a vital role in making Great Yarmouth a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant place for all.
