This role helps visitors to the library to find out more about their family's past or to research the history of their house or local area.Detailed description
Local libraries are a treasure trove of information for those researching their family history, their building or street or local organisations. And yet for someone without the knowledge, it can be difficult to know where toe start. This is where the Local History Research Volunteer comes in.
You can do this by hoping people to look through the archives, photographs, book records, Microfiche of Yarmouth Mercury articles, and various computer programs to trace queries. The query may be in person or it may be that you will undertake the research where someone has left a request and you will then send it electronically or save it for collection.
This role is for 2-3 hours during weekdays and it would ideally be the same time each week.
You will be working alongside the local history librarian and will receive some training and mentoring in order to undertake the work. If you are interested in local history and would like to learn more about researching, gaining experience along the way, this is a great little opportunity!
