Summary

Could you help people in Gorleston to play tennis in fun and engaging sessions for just one hour on Saturday mornings? No prior experience needed.

Detailed description

Barclays Free Park Tennis is a free, organised tennis session, delivered weekly on a Saturday morning from 10–11am at Gorleston Cliffs Tennis Courts.

The aim is simply to organise fun sessions that appeal to people who fancy giving tennis a go or who have not played in many years. It’s suited to adults, children (8+) and families. All equipment is provided so its just a case of turning up and enjoying your time on court.

What is the park tennis activator role?

Being part of a team of Barclays Free Park Tennis Activators and run fun games and tennis exercises that help people to get active in their local park on a weekend morning. It is not a coaching role and doesnt require tennis skills. Activators help make tennis accessible to those that want to have try.

You will welcome and register people on to court and hand out equipment, help to organise fun, simple activities for people to play in, and then collect equipment in at the end. Volunteers will together as a team to manage the group of participants whilst maintaining a safe and enjoyable session.

A minimum of two activators will run each session so activators can support on a rota basis fitting the dates you are able attend.

Skills & attributes needed

·      To be welcoming, kind and respectful

·      A general enthusiasm for tennis (playing ability is not important here!)

·      Good communication skills, and experience of organising people are beneficial, but not essential

·      Passion for helping others

·      Be reliable and consistent

Becoming an activator

·      Free online activator training will provide all the knowledge and skills you will need to organise a session. The course lasts approx. 2-3 hours and covers elements of content, organisation, safeguarding and inclusion.

·      Plus shadowing opportunities will be provided to learn from others.

·      Activators will also complete an LTA volunteer DBS criminal records check (this ensures sessions are safe for all)

Are there any other benefits?

·      All activators receive a Barclays Free Park Tennis hoodie

·      Entry into the volunteer Wimbledon Ticket Ballot for all activators who deliver sessions.

·      Learn new skills and have great fun whilst playing and empowering others to play a sport.

This is a great opportunity for local payers, members of existing clubs, aspiring coaches and college students.
