Summary

The Diocese of Norwich Multi Academy Trusts (DNEAT and St Benet’s MAT) have exciting volunteer opportunities for new governors across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Detailed description

As a local governor within a Diocese of Norwich Multi Academy Trust, you will be joining a team that is committed to promoting the vision and values of the MAT and the Diocese. We believe that the child must always be at the heart of our work and that our Christian ethos is instrumental in delivery of the best possible educational offer and outcomes.

While the Trust Board holds ultimate accountability, certain responsibilities are delegated to Local Governance Committees (LGCs) through the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation, which all governors must understand.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

•Determining the vision for the school within the Trust.

•Working with senior leaders to develop a strategy for achieving the vision .

•Ensuring that parents, pupils, staff and the wider community are involved, consulted and informed as appropriate.

2. Governance Development

•Engage with training and development to ensure governors are skilled, committed, and diverse.

•Adhere to the code of conduct and raise any performance or engagement concerns.

•Support an inclusive, collaborative governance culture.

3. Meetings & Governance Operations

•Asking challenging questions of school leaders in order to hold them to account for how pupils’ experience is enhanced by the school’s vision.

•Help the school to prepare outstanding bodies of evidence to support positive outcomes at SIAMS.

• Support the school(s) to evidence excellent standards of safeguarding practice.

4. Relationship with the school

•Get to know the school(s) and visit to carry out monitoring activities.

•Encourage staff understanding of the LGC’s role.

5. Trust & External Representation

•Represent the LGC at Trust events when asked.

•Be an advocate for the school and Trust in dealings with external partners.

•Offer time to pupil exclusion/suspension or parental complaint panels across the Trust (with training).

6. Driving Improvement

•Keep the LGC focused on their priorities and areas of responsibility (Scheme of Delegation).

•Model effective questioning and use of information to

inform decisions.

We welcome applications from individuals of all faiths and none, of all ages and levels of experience and from all backgrounds. Knowledge of education and the education system or board experience are not necessary - the skills you have, your attitude and commitment are more valuable. Our Governors are asked to agree to uphold the Christian ethos of the Multi Academy Trust.
