Summary
Share your career experiences to help Year 5 pupils understand more about the world of work, with social mobility charity Future First.Detailed description
Did you know what job you wanted when you were in primary school?
Did you even know that your job existed?!
I'll be running two days of Future First 'World of Work' workshops and I'm looking for local volunteers to speak to small groups of Year 5 pupils about your job and answer any questions they have, in order to:
✔ raise pupils' awareness and aspirations
✔ challenge gender stereotypes about jobs
✔ connect pupils with relatable role models
Many disadvantaged pupils don’t have any career role models in their lives or any idea about what their futures could hold but you can help to change that!
The sessions will be in a carousel-style where you will sit with small groups of pupils at a time and talk to them about your job/career experiences and answer their questions, then rotate around the different groups. You will also support with a debate about challenging gender stereotypes in the workplace, as well as creating a mind map of the subjects they're learning and school and how you use them in your daily life/job/career experiences.
This is a great opportunity to gain volunteering experience relevant to primary education and to further develop communication skills with young people. You can attend one or both days, depending on your availability.
Please also share this information with any colleagues, friends or family that you think may be interested so that we can find as many role models as possible for the pupils. Thank you for supporting the futures of local young people!
About Future First
We work with schools and colleges all over the UK to build their alumni networks of relatable role models and then we deliver workshops where we invite the alumni volunteers to return to school and share their experiences since leaving school, in order to show pupils what is possible for “someone like me”. Future First also creates opportunities for students to gain insights into the world of work at its employer partners, as well as a number of projects such as inviting local community volunteers into primary school workshops to act as career role models for younger pupils.
