Summary

Norwich Samaritans is bringing The Baton of Hope 2025 to Norwich on 17th September. We’re looking for volunteers to help at various events throughout the city.

Detailed description

‘The Baton of Hope’ is the UK’s largest suicide prevention initiative. It was created as a parallel icon to the Olympic torch to celebrate mental health, and raise awareness and encourage open conversations about suicide. The national event will see the baton carried through 20 towns and cities across the UK, including Norwich. On 17th September, the baton will be passed between 40 baton bearers who have survived suicide or been bereaved by suicide, in a procession from the Norfolk Showground, through the city to Norwich City Football Club. A variety of events will also take place at landmarks along the route.

‘Bringing the Baton of Hope to Norwich will raise awareness significantly and help smash the stigma surrounding suicide – a stigma which prevents so many from asking for help’.

Ian Dallas, Outreach Deputy Director for Norwich Samaritans - the charity bringing the Baton of Hope to Norwich

We are looking for volunteer stewards, qualified first aiders and qualified mental health first aiders to help for a few hours on the day of the event.
