Summary

Read Easy Norfolk are looking for volunteer Coordinators in the Norwich area. No previous experience is required as all training is provided.

Detailed description

Coordinators are the first point of contact for those who want to learn to read. Using a simple assessment, the Coordinator will explain to a potential new ‘Reader’ how Read Easy may be able to help them.

The Coordinator pairs up new Coaches with those who want to learn to read and provides ongoing support to these reading pairs. They visit reading sessions occasionally and maintain support through regular calls with both Reader and Coach to check all is going well, calling on the group’s Literacy Specialist to respond to any literacy related difficulties a pair may be having.

Skills you will need:

  • a passion for supporting others
  • a willingness to become familiar with the phonics based Turning Pages manuals
  • good communications and people skills
  • strong organisational, time management and record keeping skills
  • reasonable confidence in using IT
  • initiative and willingness to work independently
  • an average of 2-3 hours per week to commit to the role

About Read Easy Norfolk

Reading is a basic requirement of everyday life, and for many of us it is a skill we take for granted. Yet there are 2.4 million adults in England alone who can barely read or cannot read at all.
Learning to read as an adult can be life-changing. The benefits can extend beyond the individual and enable families to break the inter-generational cycle of literacy difficulties.
