About Schoolreaders
Schoolreaders is a charity that finds volunteers and matches them to primary schools where they give one-to-one reading sessions. 1 in 4 children are currently leaving primary school below the expected reading level, which has a negative impact on their ability to access secondary school education and can have lifelong negative consequences.
By volunteering with Schoolreaders, individuals can make a meaningful difference in a child's life.
Volunteers visit their matched school once a week for an hour or two during the school day. Volunteers need to be over 18 and have a good level of spoken and written English. We ask for a commitment of one year of volunteering as this is where most progress is made in a child’s reading but of course time can be taken off for holidays or appointments.
