Summary
We are looking for Community Governors to join a number of our Norwich schools. You will attend 6 meetings/year plus occasional school visits during the dayDetailed description
Would you be interested in joining 250,000 volunteers who help shape the future of the children and young people in their communities? If so, Unity Schools Partnership (USP) is looking for local community members to join a number of its schools’ governing bodies in Norwich.
Governors don’t need to be educational experts; they just need to be interested in supporting their school to provide the best education for its pupils. They develop a vision and strategy for the school and hold the school and trust leaders to account to ensure that every pupil has the best possible education. Community governors also provide a strong link between the school and the local community.
Being a governor involves:
- attending governing board meetings: these normally take place around six times a year and are generally held outside school hours
- looking at information and evidence on the school’s progress and discussing it with executive leaders
- visiting schools to see plans working in practice, and listening to the views of staff, pupils and parents
- undertaking induction training and ongoing development.
In return for your efforts, you would gain or enhance a number of transferable life skills, including the ability to raise questions, discuss issues and make decisions. You would strengthen your ability to work with a team and gain experience of managing an organisation.
All new governors, regardless of their background, attend induction training and receive support to perform their role. They will undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to taking up the post.
