Detailed description
Could you be part of the YANA Helpline team?
If you want to make a real difference to people's lives, are happy listening and talking on the telephone, and are able to offer at least 3-4 hours of your time each month please get in touch to see how you can make a difference as a Helpline Volunteer.
Our Helpline Volunteers provide confidential support to people who contact YANA for help, alongside the wider team, ensuring YANA provides effective support to those in need.
You will be part of a team who provide a professional and responsive helpline service, supporting people in agriculture and rural businesses struggling with poor mental health and other matters which may include things such as work issues, relationship problems, and financial pressures.
Volunteers are an essential part of the work we do at YANA
Many people involved with agriculture can feel isolated, depressed or unable to cope as well as normal.
95% of farm workers under 40 cite poor mental health as the biggest problem they face today. Farm Safety Foundation (2023)
That’s why the YANA helpline is a vital service for our agricultural communities in East Anglia.
Training for our Volunteers
With full training and support, our Helpline Volunteers develop their skills and knowledge, while offering compassionate, real-time support to over 18s through our Helpline.

If you would like to apply please get in touch to be sent the recruitment pack. You will need to submit your expression of interest in the form of a letter (no more than 2 pages) demonstrating clearly how your skills and experience match our person specification and your interest in the volunteer role on our helpline.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 4th December.
Interviews are planned for week of 15th December. If successful, training is likely to take place throughout January 2026 and will encompass a two day training course with follow on training aiming to be complete by the end of February 2026.

We aim to reach all farms, farm workers and rural businesses in East Anglia with our literature, to provide support, build awareness, and positively affect the mental health of our agricultural and rural communities.
