The department can be a hive of activity, with it's fast paced environment, supporting children to adult, arriving either as walk in's or via ambulance.

Volunteers support ED pressures with the following:

Streaming area; Volunteers greet footfall coming into the foyer, assisting with wayfinding & reducing the volume awaiting to speak to the front door nursing staff.  They can accompany paediatric patient's & their accompanying adult round to ED Children's services - aiding the 4 hour target time.  If there are relatives for resus,  Volunteers may  accompany relatives within the waiting room whilst they await for nursing staff to collect them.

Rapid Assessment area;  Volunteers monitor the inbound screen & will either find bed trolleys and wheelchairs accordingly, helping to reduce ambulance off load times which should be within 15 minutes. They can also assist with chatting to patients, informing them of the processes, completing belonging forms  & labelling property.

Trolley bay area;  Volunteers provide companionship to patients, where they will longer here after coming through RATS & alleviating concerns they may have whilst they wait for test results.

Children's area; Volunteers greet patients as they come into the unit, chatting with patients and their families, accompany to x-ray.

Ambulatory area;  Volunteers welcome all footfall to the area, assisting with wayfinding around ED,  including car park validation, helping with calling patients through to be seen & directing to x-ray.

If you would like to join our Volunteer team, our shift times are during Monday to Sunday; 10am till 1pm, 1pm till 4pm and 4pm till 7pm. If evenings/weekends are your preferred choice, please let us know on your initial expression of interest, so that we can provide you further commitment information about this.

This is a fun and rewarding opportunity with no two days ever the same!
