Summary
Library friends groups provide support to their local library in a number of ways.Detailed description
Friends have the opportunity to do the following:
- Feedback on library services
- Help with stock selection by feeding back to ensure that materials we order are relevant to the needs and tastes of the community
- Organise events and activities
- Take part in fundraising activities and highlight local initiatives through which we might fundraise
- Provide a vital link between our services and the local community
Duties will include all or some of the following depending on level of involvement and interests:
- Support the role of libraries in engaging with their local community
- Have a representative group of friends including young people and families
- Raise awareness of services the library offers through promotion and publicity
- Provide financial support through organising and aiding fundraising activities such as book sales and coffee mornings
- Feed back on our services in a constructive way and highlight where we could improve
- Help form a panel to provide local feedback on stock selection
- Hold events and activities that raise the profile of the library in the community, working with the library manager and staff to organise these activities
- Write up activities they have been involved with for us to communicate via social media such as Facebook and Twitter
Friends group members should have an interest in becoming more involved with their local library and passionate about helping us to improve and grow as a service.
