Summary

Could your financial skills help save lives? Norwich Samaritans is seeking a Branch Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees to oversee the financial health

Detailed description

As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring Norwich Samaritans can continue providing 24/7 emotional support to people in distress. You’ll work alongside a committed team of Trustees and volunteers, offering financial oversight, guidance, and reassurance — helping the Board make informed, responsible decisions.

You don’t need to be a qualified accountant or a listening volunteer. What matters most is sound financial understanding, attention to detail, and a commitment to Samaritans’ values. We are committed to diversity and warmly encourage applications from people of all ages, ethnicities, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender Identities.

This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills for social good, gain charity governance experience, and make a real difference in your local community.

Time commitment: Approx. 2-3 days per month including attending monthly review meetings, and quarterly board meetings.

Location: Primarily Norwich-based; meetings are held at our branch (St Stephen’s Square) or via video conferencing.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee budgets, accounts, and financial reporting
  • Advise Trustees on financial matters and sustainability
  • Ensure strong financial controls and compliance in line with charity law and Samaritans’ policies
  • Set the branch’s strategic direction alongside fellow Trustees and the Branch Director.
  • Be an ambassador for Norwich Samaritans within the local community

What you’ll gain

  • Valuable experience in charity governance and strategic leadership
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development
  • A supportive, welcoming team environment
