Role Profile

The aim of the Meet & Greet Volunteer role at The New Priscilla Bacon lodge is to create a friendly, welcoming and helpful environment. To offer directional advice and practical assistance as required by Patients and all Visitors to the new Priscilla Bacon lodge, in collaboration with reception staff and colleagues.

This role involves a regular ongoing commitment of approximately 3-4 hours a week. There will also be the opportunity to Volunteer during conferences and events held by the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity.



Shifts available at the following times;

Monday to Sunday 9.30am - 12.30pm

Monday to Sunday 12.30pm - 3.30 or 4:30pm

Additional Adhoc evenings and weekends for events and conferences

 

Activities undertaken by volunteers will not be used as a substitution for that of paid staff. Volunteers will not be asked to help in ways which facilitate a decrease in paid employment. The work of volunteers will always be to complement and not supplement that of paid employees of the Trust.

 

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities may vary from session to session and any variations will be discussed with you as needed, but they are likely to include:


  1. To display a helpful, friendly and courteous attitude to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  2. To be proactive as a contact point welcoming people to Priscilla Bacon Lodge.
  3. To provide clear and accurate directional information to help people find their destination.
  4. To escort people to their destination as appropriate.
  5. To help direct people to information about activities and events taking place.
  6. To help collect feedback from customers and visitors.
  7. To refer to appropriate member of staff if help is required outside of the remit of this role.
  8. To help keep the environment tidy and pleasant.


Registration and Training

All volunteers will need to undertake a Standard DBS check and provide two appropriate character references.

All volunteers will need to complete our volunteer recruitment, including our Volunteers’ Induction training. This will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to and NCH&C NHS Trust; key subjects which are relevant to all volunteering roles, and practical matters.


Refresher training sessions will be required throughout your time as a volunteer.


Volunteer Profile

A Patient Meet & Greet Volunteer will be friendly, compassionate and enthusiastic about supporting the clinical team and the patients and visitors

In addition, they will have/be:


  1. A good command of verbal and written English
  2. A helpful, friendly and courteous attitude to customers, visitors, and colleagues
  3. A commitment to undertake training appropriate to the role
  4. A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  5. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  6. A good understanding and demonstration of customer service standards
  7. The ability to work independently
  8. A flexible approach and attitude
  9. Responsible, mature, honest
  10. Non-judgmental with a sympathetic nature
  11. Willing to treat all patients, relatives, visitors, staff and other volunteers with consideration, politeness, dignity and respect
  12. Able to work within the guidelines
  13. Able to accept appropriate supervision and guidance from staff and colleagues

 

Support

You will be supported by your Volunteer Coordinator. Your Coordinator will support you through your induction and provide ongoing support throughout your time as a volunteer.

You will be invited to attend events and occasional social gatherings for volunteers, which will give you an opportunity to meet other volunteers and learn about the work of the Trust. 


All reasonable out of pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed

About Priscilla Bacon Lodge NCHC NHS Trust

Priscilla Bacon Lodge has provided Specialist Palliative Care to people around Norfolk for over 40 years. The new Priscilla Bacon Lodge is home to a state-of-the-art palliative care unit. It has been built on an 8-acre site adjacent to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Century Place Colney Norwich NR4 7YA. As well as inpatient beds, a day unit and a wellbeing centre, the Lodge is a hub for community-based services, enabling people to receive care in their own homes. The 8-acre site has given the unique opportunity of delivering the landscape, garden, formal gardens and a wildflower meadow.
