About Mid Norfolk Mencap
Mid Norfolk Mencap is an independent registered charity, established in 1977, supporting people with learning disabilities across Norfolk. Over 16,500 adults in Norfolk are estimated to have a learning disability, including 12,000 people community of working age. The need for high quality, based support is significant and growing.
We are a Mencap Network Partner, operating independently within the national network. Our commissioned services are funded by Norfolk County Council, supplemented by grants, fundraising, and the support of our members and community.
Our Vision:
Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. Our challenge, alongside people with a learning disability and their families, is to make this world a reality.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to enable the people we support to lead fulfilling lives, to be involved members in their local wider community and to have access to the same opportunities as all members of the community.
Our Values:
- We are Inclusive. People with a learning disability are at the heart of everything we do.
- We are Trustworthy. When we promise something, we don’t let people down.
- We are Caring. We treat everyone with respect and kindness.
- We are Challenging. When we see things that aren’t fair, we will campaign until we see real change.
- We are Positive. We never stop believing in a better future and we celebrate what we are proud of now.
What We Do
Community Outreach Service
Our core commissioned service supports adults with a learning disability to lead fulfilling and independent lives. Working through individual, outcome focused support plans, our team helps people develop practical skills, build confidence, access their com munity, and achieve their own goals. The service is contracted through Norfolk County Council and operates across mid, and south Norfolk.
Dereham and District Gateway Club
Operating from our Tavern Lane Hub in Dereham, the Gateway Club provides a safe, sociable and enjoyable space for adults with a learning disability. The club recently relaunched with a new home at Tavern Lane, an expanded programme, and a dedicated paid volunteer coordinator to ensure it is sustainable and responsive to members' wishes. It is an important part of what makes Mid Norfolk Mencap more than just a service provider.
New services
We are actively working to expand our reach and develop new services, informed by our strategic plan and the needs we see across the county. Trustees will play a direct role in shaping that growth.
