Welcome volunteers greet visitors as they arrive at Wymondham Abbey. It's a key role that helps to ensure everyone who visits has the best possible experience.
Wymondham Abbey is a magnificent building with a fascinating history that has been at the heart of our community for over 900 years. Every year thousands of people come through its doors. Our welcomers greet visitors and guide them towards the many outstanding historical features. Of course some visitors just wish to sit quietly, pray or light a candle, others come in to visit our shop that is located within the Abbey.
The Abbey is open Monday - Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm (5.00pm in the Summer) and Sunday afternoons. Welcome volunteer shifts are usually for two hours and we ask for a minimum commitment of 4-6 hours per month. Full training and support is provided.
Many people volunteer at Wymondham Abbey in lots of different roles. On joining the welcome desk team you will become part of a larger community who all work towards making the Abbey a warm and welcoming place to visit, and a rewarding environment to volunteer in.

Wymondham Abbey is a magnificent building that has been at the heart of our community for over 900 years, but it is far more than just a building. Every year thousands of people come through its doors; people who join us for worship, those who come as tourists and those who simply drop by to light a candle, say a prayer and enjoy the very special atmosphere. The Abbey shop is located inside the church selling gifts, books and souvenirs. Our shop volunteers do 1-3hr shifts from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 10am and 4pm. If you can spare a few hours a month and are interested in joining our friendly and supportive team of volunteers in a beautiful, historic and serene environment we would love to hear from you!
