In today’s digital world, getting your charity in front of the right audience is more important than ever. Whether you're looking to raise awareness, attract new donors, or recruit volunteers, visibility is key, and Google is helping charities do just that. Google Ad Grants is an initiative designed to help nonprofits share their causes with the world. Eligible organisations can access up to £7,000 per month in free Google Search Ads, helping you reach new audiences and increase your online presence. These ads appear on Google when people search for topics relevant to your organisation, allowing potential supporters to more easily find and engage with your cause.

What You Get

Each eligible charity receives up to £7,000 per month in advertising credits, which can be used to:

🌐 Drive traffic to your website

📣 Promote events and campaigns

💸 Increase online donations

🙋 Attract volunteers

📚 Share educational content

Additional paid campaigns can also be run through a separate Google Ads account, but the Ad Grants program itself is entirely free.

How to Get Started

Getting started is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide to launching your first campaign:

1. Apply for Google for Nonprofits

First, your organisation needs to join Google for Nonprofits. To be eligible, your organisation must hold valid charity status. Eligibility requirements can be read here.

2. Activate Google Ad Grants

Sign in to Google for Nonprofits, click 'Activate products', then 'Get started' under Google Ad Grants, complete the required information and click 'Activate' to submit your organisation for review.

You will need to use the same login email for your Google for Nonprofits and Ad Grants accounts.

3. Launch Your First Ad Campaign

Once your activation request has been approved and you’ve accepted the email invitation to your Ad Grants account, you can begin setting up your first campaign!

Making the Most of Your Grant

To succeed, it’s important to be aware of best practices for campaign setup and performance. Try and focus on:

🔑 Using specific keywords related to your cause

✍️ Writing compelling ad copy that drives action

📈 Optimising your website landing pages for conversions

🛠️ Monitoring campaign performance and making improvements over time

With thoughtful strategy and consistent effort, Google Ad Grants can become a vital part of your organisations digital outreach.

Engaging Young People in Volunteering workshop

| For organisations

There's still time to book your place on our Engaging Young People in Volunteering workshop. This session will help you to take the first steps to engage young people to volunteer with your charity or community group, or improve your existing relationship with young volunteers. What's Involved? With declining volunteer numbers and rising youth isolation in mind, we know that both VCSEs and young people themselves are in a position to gain a lot from volunteering, but many organisations are unsure how to appeal to this audience. Many groups are also concerned about how to tailor roles to the needs of young people and safely support them. In this workshop, we'll explore the safeguarding considerations of working with under-18s, plus hear from young people about their experiences of volunteering. In breakout groups, we'll discuss the specific barriers to working with young people you face in your organisation, plus how you might overcome them. Finally, we'll share some good practice from local organisations who successfully support young volunteers.
